Case Study: From Domestic Cleaner to Successful Cleaning Product Entrepreneur
Our client at Admiral Strategic Consulting began her career as a domestic cleaner in London, balancing work with caring for her young child. Given her need for flexible hours, she couldn’t take on traditional, fixed-schedule jobs. We initially supported her by establishing a Basic Service Pack website, where she could represent herself professionally, share her services and rates, and convey a legitimate business image. Beyond the website, we helped her set up a limited company, obtain Public Liability Insurance, and provided legal support in creating contracts with clients and subcontractors.
At our suggestion, she focused on a straightforward site, not investing heavily in online presence since most clients in the cleaning industry find services through referrals rather than websites. Two years later, she had another child, limiting her ability to work or expand her cleaning services directly. Although she hired subcontractors to cover her own duties, she found the margins insufficient to sustain her business effectively.
Looking for a change, she reached out to us for guidance, and we suggested she transition to an online business model. With her understanding of the cleaning industry and her insights into the needs and buying habits of cleaners, we helped her pivot her business to offer white-labeled cleaning products. Together, we developed a line of cleaning solutions, including specialized products like window cleaners and scale removers.
Our team handled the entire process to make her business legitimate and scalable. We managed the legal and certification requirements, registered her brand name with the Intellectual Property Office, and trademarked it under one product class. Once her brand was established, we oversaw the end-to-end manufacturing process with a partner in China, coordinating containerisation, export logistics, customs clearance, and final delivery to her warehouse in Park Royal, London.
Since launching, she has successfully expanded her product range to include over 10 branded products beyond just white-label offerings. Today, she works with reseller partners throughout the United Kingdom, growing her business without compromising her time for family. Although she currently prefers to focus on the UK market, her brand has the potential to expand into the EU and USA whenever she’s ready.
This transformation showcases how an in-depth understanding of industry needs, combined with strategic business support, can enable a complete career shift from local services to a successful national brand.
